Who needs to comply
If you put plastic, electronics, or batteries on the market in India, EPR applies.
D2C brands using plastic packaging
If you sell goods in plastic packaging in India — pouches, bottles, MLP wrappers — you are a brand owner under PWM Rules.
Importers of packaged goods or packaging
Importing finished goods in plastic packaging or empty packaging? Both attract EPR obligations under Schedule II.
Electronics and battery importers
Laptops, mobiles, appliances, lithium-ion cells — you have overlapping obligations under E-Waste Rules 2022 and BWM Rules 2022.
FMCG manufacturers and processors
Anyone producing rigid, flexible, multi-layered, or compostable plastic packaging in India is a Producer under Category I–IV.
What non-compliance costs
The penalties are published, predictable, and stack quickly.
These figures come directly from the Environment (Protection) Act read with the relevant EPR rules. They are not predictions; they are the regulator's published exposure.
Standard violation penalty range under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
Continuing-violation charge while non-compliance persists.
Maximum imprisonment for repeat or willful non-compliance.
Suspension from Government e-Marketplace — a real revenue risk for sellers with B2G channels.
Why EPRHQ
Why EPRHQ vs buying certificates directly from recyclers?
Certificates are a commodity. Compliance is a system. Going direct to a recycler gets you certificates — usually at inflated prices, sometimes from suspended recyclers, often without the timing and filing work that makes them actually count.
Verified recyclers
We re-check CPCB authorisation every 90 days. No ghost certificates from suspended recyclers in our pipeline.
Market-rate pricing transparency
We aggregate quotes across our network so you know whether ₹40/kg is the going rate or a quote-padded mark-up.
Optimal purchase timing
We alert you before the March price spike. Certificate procurement done in February costs 20–35% less than April scrambles.
Auto-generated returns
Quarterly Form 4 / Form 1A and annual Form 3 / Form 2 drafts pre-fill from your saved calculations. You upload to CPCB; done.

Frequently asked
Common questions, answered plainly.
- Is this really free?
- Yes. The calculator is free and requires no signup. We make money when D2C brands upgrade for filings, alerts, and certificate procurement — starting at ₹9,999/year.
- Is my calculation legally final?
- No. The calculator is an estimate built on publicly available CPCB rules. Your final filing on the CPCB EPR portal must be verified against your own packaging records and, ideally, reviewed by a qualified professional.
- Which categories are covered today?
- Plastic packaging (Cat I–IV) under PWM Rules 2022, E-Waste under EWMR 2022, and Batteries under BWMR 2022. Tyre and Used Oil land in the coming weeks. The Multi-category tab consolidates all three for electronics importers.
- How accurate are the placeholder rates?
- The rates and recycling targets shown today are placeholder values being verified against the latest gazette. Numbers and per-category targets will be replaced before paid filings open.
- Do you store my data?
- We store anonymous calculations to improve the product and aggregate market trends. We never share individual submissions. If you provide an email, it is used only for the breakdown PDF and EPR update digest. See our privacy policy.
